  • DISIG | Lower Manhattan, 3rd avenue, NYC | Residential Development

    Hello,

This one was started and done with 3.6 primarily so it goes here instead of vray next images, let's not forget how cool and usable 3.6 was/is in this crazy anticipation of 4.0.

However , some angles required 4.0, because better memory management, fitting bunch of geometry with displacement and lots of 8k textures, wasn't so easy going on 3.6, so some images are done and they can only be done with 4.0.

Full size resolution is as always around 30mpix, soon we figure out how we can give access without pass or automatic log in i am happy to share it with you guys.

Render time ranged from 50 minutes to up to 2 hours on around 20-30 1080ti and few processors in distributive with HYBRID.

Other project images can be found here: https://www.behance.net/gallery/6163...al-development
and of course on www.double-aye.com we will add more images as this progress or not, who knows.

Sun+sky+fog and geometry, no plates, except serving plates of course

    Take care
    Ivan

Hour or two on 20-30 1080ti's seems like long render times, Great images!

Thanks, i think that render times for resolution of 4500 x 6750 with Environment fog to noise 0.01 is perfectly fine, it took almost 5k passes. Yes i guess it would be faster if Dome + HDRI was used without Environment fog and geometry outside but where is fun in that

Joking aside i wanted to find out also what are results with Dome + HDRI so i try that just now and since i have to be somewhere i couldn't wait here are the unfinished results i guess it would finish around 30 min mark, this shot took originally around 1hr: 57minutes(do not know how many GPU's but i guess about the same).

This has no clamping, sub pixel... pretty much def. settings, except it's set to 5k passes(as it needs that much with sun + sky + geometry + fog), that is why bottom progress bar is at half when in fact it would took i guess around 30 min on 22x1080ti. to reach 0.01(it slows down near the end) and around 3-3.5k passes and i guess that is pretty much fast.

      Take care

        Great looking renders
        I loved the texturing
Regarding rendertime honestly I don't mind for such quality... the fuuny fact that i see in my work also is that my rendertime has been the same for years 1-2 hours most of the time .. New technology just allow us to do better rendner in higher resolution , more effects, high res textures.
        -------------------------------------------------------------
Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

Thanks, i think that render times are not that problematic for such high resolution, everything comes at it's price, if you use Dome + HDRI renders are faster and that was always the case, apparently around 4 times faster for this scene.

Sun + sky setup is also very fast as i know what render times would be on CPU with vray advanced and if you need that outside DOF and environment fog control there is no way around except using geometry and sacrifice that additional few hours.

Amazing what can you cram into 11gb of memory these days and with what you can get away with.

Great work! You must have got all those 1080ti's before this crypto mining stuff went bezerk in the last couple of months.... I can't even get hold of one at the moment!
